Born in Gainesville, Florida, Tom Petty was just ten years old when he was inspired to play guitar after meeting Elvis Presley. 

After the disbanding of his first group Mudcrutch, Petty formed The Heartbreakers and released a self-titled album with modest success. In time, the album would gain much wider appreciation. Their third album "Damn The Torpedoes!" made Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers a household name, with smash hits like "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That", the band achieved peak classic rock radio play -- and never left the airwaves.

After the platinum-selling 1981 album Hard Promises, Petty and the Heartbreakers backed Bob Dylan on his True Confessions tour through 1986. Tom became one of the Traveling Wilburys supergroup in 1988. Petty's 1994 album Wildflowers included massive hits "You Don't Know How It Feels" and "Wildflowers". Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performed during the 2008 Super Bowl XLII halftime show.
