Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Charlie Parker began playing saxophone at eleven, quitting school at just fifteen to enroll in the Musician's Union and pursue a career in jazz music full time. Parker honed improvisational horn skills in the Kansas City Jazz Clubs and Missouri Ozarks, developing a progressive fast-paced style that came to be known as Bebop. Charlie's immense talent attracted a stable of young students who became virtually every iconic name in Jazz -- Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Bud Powell, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, among others. While he tragically died at just 34 years old, Parker's genius output lead to a burst of progressive musical experimentation that has never stopped changing music or jazz.
