In 1965, the world was changing fast, and Big Brother and the Holding Company's firey acidic psychedelic rock would perfectly fit the tumultuous times. Formed in San Fransisco during the height of the counter-culture hippie movement, BBHC was jazz drummer David Getz, Guitarists Peter Album, Sam Andrew, James Gurley, and Janis Joplin. Big Brother's major label debut with 1968's Cheap Thrills shot up the Billboard charts to #1 and offered the Summer of Love soon-to-be-hit songs like "Piece of My Heart" and "Ball and Chain", the bluesy Big Mama Thornton cover.
