The man who gave Pink Floyd its name -- Syd Barrett was the founding member and the band's original lead singer guitarist and songwriter, embarking on a brief but impactful solo career before leaving music for personal pursuits.  

After leaving Floyd in 1968, Barrett released his celebrated solo album The Madcap Laughs in 1970, which included former bandmates David Gilmour and Roger Waters. By 1972, Barrett had retired from music.
