Leadbelly's 1934 version of Midnight Special was probably the most impactful. After all, it was recorded while the bluesman was serving time in Angola Prison. Creedence kicked Leadbelly's version up a few notches and turned into a popping rock n roll number on 1969's Willy and the Poor Boys.
