1967's Monterey International Pop Music Festival lit a fire in American Culture by hosting the first U.S. performance of The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Ravi Shankar. Other performers Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, The Grateful Dead, The Butterfield Blues Band, Booker T and the MGs, and many others helped cement Monterey Pop's place in music history.
