The Monterey International Pop Music Festival was a culture-changing three-day concert event held at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California from June 16 through June 18, 1967. What started as an idyllic festival turned into a major tipping point for American music and the counter-culture. Monterey Pop Festival's attendance was estimated at 50-90,000 festival-goers.

Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, The Grateful Dead, Ravi Shankur, The Who, The Butterfield Blues Band, Booker T and the MGs, and many others became household names after their MPOP performances.

Interestingly, Monterey was the first American performance for Jimi Hendrix, Ravi and The Who. The unique 1967 Monterey Pop Festival lineup would never exist again, but many performances were captured on video (Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company played an unscheduled second time just so the crew could film). It was later released as a featured film nationwide.
