The Grateful Dead's husband-wife members Donna & Keith Godchaux were early dead heads, and joined the band in 1971 simply by asking. Keith was a classically trained pianist & had played along to Dead records at home, Donna sang backup vocals. They were a perfectly timed addition to the group.
