Perhaps a controversial choice of name, Johnny Winter's Second Winter was technically his third album, after Progressive Blues Experiment and Johnny Winter.

Recorded in Nashville and released in 1969, it was the last to feature Winter's original backing band, including his brother Edgar Winter on keyboards & sax, Tommy Shannon on bass and Uncle John Turner on drums. The result is a loud, proud, trailblazing electric guitar symphony that is Second Winter.

"Winter is stunning," wrote Rolling Stone back in 1969, "with imaginative arrangements of very familiar material, ginmill earthy musicianship, and definitive rock and roll by anybody's standards."
