Description
Psychedelic Chicago Blues Proto Soul!! This is a new vinyl record copy of The Baby Huey Story -- Find out why Baby Huey is the authentic link between the Blues & Hip Hop in this stunning album.
Produced by Curtis Mayfield!
Huey's
ONLY
Album!
While he would never know it in his tragically short lifetime, James Thomas Ramey, better known as
Baby Huey
, would become one of the most influential figures in Hip Hop History.
Baby Huey & the Babysitters were a psychedelic soul act founded in 1963 from Chicago's south east side. Hotter than a 50 cent pistol, the band were so in demand that they hardly stopped to record.
The Babysitters released several singles -- fueled by Huey's unmistakably energetic vocals and soul-drenched horn lines.
It seemed Huey was on the cusp of greatness. He'd attracted the attention of Curtis Mayfield as his producer, was scheduled for a number of performances and even TV appearances, when a drug-induced heart attack ended the larger-than-life singer's stunning career.
Mayfield pulled together enough captured material to release a single album --
The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend
.
The record was not a huge success without Huey to promote it, but developed a burning following -- the percussive beats and hard horn pops became the foundation of a freshly budding Hip Hop scene.
The Bobby "Blue" Bland stylings of Huey's "Hard Times" has been sampled or covered by, among many others, A Tribe Called Quest, Ghostface Killah, John Legend and Ice Cube.
