Sun Records was founded in Memphis, Tennessee in 1952 by Sam Phillips. Often hailed as the birthplace of rock 'n' roll, the label quickly gained renown for its groundbreaking roster of artists, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, who helped shape the sound of modern music.
Sun Records' tiny storefront studio on Union Avenue became a cultural hub -- attracting aspiring musicians from all over the country eager to record their own blend of blues, country, gospel and rockabilly.
Phillips' innovative recording techniques, coupled with the raw talent of the artists he discovered, cemented Sun Records' legacy as a pioneering force in the evolution of American popular music.
