At this point in history, The Band was quickly becoming a household name -- at once both alluring and unpretentious, folksy and progressive. After famously hiding out with Bob Dylan in upstate New York to play music for many months, they'd recently released the massive hit "Music From Big Pink", and were about to release their iconic self-titled album.
The Fillmore was located at Second Ave and 6th St in in New York City, and it was the east-coast twin of most hip, go-to music venue in the country.
