Born from the Blues indeed! Sun Records was founded from the success of Sun Studio's recording of Ike Turner's original song "Rocket 88" -- arguably the first song linking between blues and rock n roll.

In the 1950s, Memphis and the area around it was experiencing a cultural explosion, and Sun Records came at the perfect time and place to capture it.

Sun Records quickly discovered Howlin' Wolf from Mississippi, who founder Sam Phillips called his greatest discovery -- big words from the man who found Elvis Presley.

Elvis himself quipped, "I said if I ever got to the place I could feel all old Arthur [Crudup] felt, I'd be a music man like nobody ever saw."

Inspired by the hip-shaking good times he saw his black fellow Mississippians & Memphians enjoying, Presley came to Sun and tried playing a cover of Crudup's "That's All Right (Mama)". The rest was history.
