Sun Records was founded in 1952 by Sam Philips thanks to the success of the Ike Turner song "Rocket 88", which was recorded at Philips' adjacent Sun Studio.

In short order, Sun discovered Howlin' Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis, and Johnny Cash, who both wandered in with the hopes of recording a song.
