Mamie Smith and her Jazz Hounds recorded "Crazy Blues" for OKeh Records on a hot Tuesday, August 10th, 1920. It didn't take long for the track to be a smash hit, blowing the door wide open for African American artists everywhere, and ushering in the era of the classic female blues singer.
