That crazy clause in Van Halen's performance contract about having a bowl with no brown M&Ms was actually a litmus test to see if the venues had followed detailed written safety & re-enforcement procedures. The band had thousands of pounds of equipment that could (and did) collapse stages.

Description
This is the special XLT version of this MPOP t-shirt.

This Bluescentric Brand XLT Monterey Pop Festival t-shirt comes in preshrunk 6oz 100% cotton sizes XLT, 2XLT and 3XLT. Sizes run very true, and have minimal, if any, shrinking. This is a standard go-to t shirt for our big & tall music lovers.

It was the hottest ticket of 1967 -- June 16, 17 and 18 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds featured performances by Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, The Grateful Dead, The Butterfield Blues Band, Booker T and the MGs, and The Who's first-ever U.S. performance, where Pete Townshend smashed his guitar in a famous finalé.

It was also Jimi Hendrix's U.S. debut, so not to be outdone, he set fire to his own guitar "as a sacrifice".

MPOP would be the blueprint for nearly all music festivals that came after, including Woodstock two years later.

This design is drawn from an original 1967 Monterey Pop day-two front stage ticket. The text reads Monterey International Pop Music Festival, June 17th, 19967 and the location, Monterey County Fairgrounds.
