Description
VERY LIMITED! Bluescentric has made a special allocation of these exceptional Festival Bags, each one unique and locally hand-made in Tutwiler, Mississippi - quite literally at the location where W.C. Handy first heard the blues. Buying this bag not only supports the local Delta women and their families, but it also supports many other programs at the Tutwiler Community Educational Center.

The bag is roughly a standard sized tote bag, with carrying capacity measuring 15.5 inches wide and 13.5 inches tall (394x343mm).

Because Improvisation is important to the local African American Mississippi Delta quilting tradition, your bag will NOT look exactly like the bag in the picture. The women use various color schemes and pieces of music-themed fabric to make each and every bag a unique piece of functional art. We promise yours will be just as beautiful.

The Tutwiler Quilters program helps local women in the very small rural community preserve the quilt-making techniques indigenous to the African American people in the Mississippi Delta. The Quilters use their skills making quilts in the African American quilting tradition to help support them and their families.

African American quilt making uses bold colors, a variety of designs, and bigger stitches. Originally, quilts such as these were were made for warmth, so they were made very quickly. Improvization is the key word in the quilt making technique of the Tutwiler Quilters.
