Johnny Winter's own record label, Blue Sky Records, was founded with the help of manager Steve Paul in 1973. Albums released by Blue Sky included Johnny, Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer. 

After Chess Records collapsed in 1975, Johnny Winter jumped at the chance to record his childhood idol Muddy Waters. And in 1977, Muddy Waters recorded Hard Again. Backed by all-stars Johnny Winter, Bob Margolin, Pinetop Perkins, Willie Big Eyes Smith, James Cotton and Charles Calmese, it won a Grammy. 

Muddy's quintessential follow-up, I'm Ready, also on Blue Sky Records won another Grammy the following year.
