Matt's Notes: Bluescentric can vouch, last two times we were in New Orleans the band(s) were simply amazing. It's an excellent contrast to the commercialized junk plaguing Bourbon St. these days. In our opinion, simply the best Blues bar on Bourbon, hands down. It's also a great defacto end of a Blues trek through the South.
225 Decatur St.
(French Quarter)
New Orleans, Louisiana 70130

Matt's Notes: This is our favorite HOB, and we've been to a couple. Great music, excellent ambiance... It's quintessentially everything you'd expect out of House of Blues. Since Katrina though, be sure to pay special attention to the hours of operation. We wouldn't want you missing out on a great time!
3000 S. Carrollton Ave.
New Orleans, Louisiana 70118

Matt's Notes: this is the place to see Blues and roots music in New Orleans! ...And you can knock over a few pins at the same time. Tab Benoit sharpened his teeth here, as well a number of other extremely talented Blues artists. It's one excellent place to check out.

Matt's Notes: Chickie Wah Wah is one heck of a great new(ish) place to catch amazing live blues nearly any night with some one of a kind ambiance. They're down in Mid-City, just a quick trolley ride away from the French Quarter. They serve great food in a New Orleans tradition, and have hosted players like Anders Osborne, John Fohl & Johnny Sansone, Kim Wilson, Roy Rogers and C.C. Adcock, John Mooney and many more. They're newly non smoking and they're lining up an even bigger gumbo of blues artists in the upcoming year! Check 'em out!
238 (ish) Bourbon Street (Look for the big "blues club" sign!)
(French quarter)
New Orleans, Louisiana 70310
504-566-1507
Matt's Notes: Seriously, the Blues Club still has the blues, and they have it with style, pizzaz and a real love of the music. Of any places in the French Quarter short of it's smaller, younger sister Sing-Sing, this is the place to catch some serious live blues. If you're lucky, you may even see the owners themselves up on stage blowing the blues harp or some serious horn. Go there.
235 Carver Avenue
Natchitoches, Louisiana 71457

Matt's Notes: This is one old school Juke Joint! Literally... it's been around since something like the 1930s! Roque is pronounced "rock", fyi. It's a clean, nonviolent place that houses some amazing blues. Their beer prices ain't nothin' to sneeze at either! If you want to find a genuine Juke, this is definitely the place to be.
