Louisiana (New Orleans)
New Orleans just does things different, and music is no exception. New Orleans' close proximity to the Mississippi Delta, coastal regions, the French who first settled it and the Caribbeans allowed it to be the ideal place for an urban mixing of musical styles. The New Orleans style distinctly utilizes horns, accordion and the piano to this day. The city is filled with musical venues, most notably in the French Quarter, where Blues and Jazz clubs can be found every few feet. New Orleans has always hosted a diverse number of musical talents, and as popular music such as Jazz & Blues (and later R&B, Soul and Rock) began to take shape, the town produced a number of vastly influential artists, among them are Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Professor Longhair, Louis Prima and Dr. John.

Matt's Notes: Bluescentric can vouch, last two times we were in New Orleans the band(s) were simply amazing. It's an excellent contrast to the commercialized junk plaguing Bourbon St. these days. In our opinion, simply the best Blues bar on Bourbon, hands down. It's also a great defacto end of a Blues trek through the South.

They serve great food in a New Orleans tradition, and have hosted players like Anders Osborne, John Fohl & Johnny Sansone, Kim Wilson, Roy Rogers and C.C. Adcock, John Mooney and many more. They're newly non smoking and they're lining up an even bigger gumbo of blues artists in the upcoming year! Check 'em out!

Of any places in the French Quarter short of it's smaller, younger sister Sing-Sing, this is the place to catch some serious live blues. If you're lucky, you may even see the owners themselves up on stage blowing the blues harp or some serious horn. Go there.

It's a clean, nonviolent place that houses some amazing blues. Their beer prices ain't nothin' to sneeze at either! If you want to find a genuine Juke, this is definitely the place to be.
