Where Southern Cross the Dog includes a CD with material, some unheard until now, recorded in the 1930s and ‘40s. The compilation includes blues, prison work songs, children’s rhymes, and oral history narrations.

Allen is donating a portion of the book’s proceeds to the Blues Foundation and the Music Maker Relief Foundation. The Blues Foundation is a nonprofit that preserves blues history, celebrates blues excellence, supports blues education, and ensures the future of this uniquely American art form. Music Maker helps the true pioneers and forgotten heroes of Southern music gain recognition and meet their day-to-day needs.
