Back to the Blues StylesDuring the 1960s, innovative artists fused Gospel with other musical elements like Blues to create a unique sound known as Soul. It was crisp, heartfelt music with a soothing Sound. Artists were progressively combining different genres, and Blues was no exception. Many artists, notably those from Memphis, Tennessee's Stax Records, such as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Booker T. and the MGs, and Sam & Dave, were at the forefront of the Soul movement. Additionally, Blues artists were adopting the elements of the Soul movement in their own way, or had been already! Artist such as Ray Charles, B.B. King, Albert King, and Bobby Rush had a healthy dose of the Soul-style sound in thier Blues. In fact, one of B.B. King's most popular works, "The Thrill Is Gone", can be considered Soul Blues.
Blues Musicians were simply combining the sounds they'd heard of the day: Funk, the Soul-inspired, soothing gospel, and the vastly popular electric Chicago-style, to create what is lovingly known as Sou Blues.
