Taj Mahal has been influencing crowds and winning hearts for nearly fifty years! He was born in New York City and grew up in a strong musical family. In his youth, he listened to the likes of great Blues artists like Howlin' Wolf, Big Mama Thornton, and Son House. He avidly studied a host of African music from the Caribbean to Zydeco to the West African, and of course, Blues and all that goes with it. He's learned to play a grip of instruments, including piano, banjo, acoustic guitar, harmonica, and even the dulcimer, mandolin, and flute!
Taj's unique country-esque Blues sounds include flavors of all sorts of varieties, spanning from bluegrass, R&B, Caribbean and Reggae. His genius in composing, playing and creating is legendary, and in a single album, he can span a broad range of musical styles into his work, earning him a special place in the hearts of Blues fans everywhere.
