"Barbecue" Bob Hicks
(Born 1931)

Barbecue Bob certainly wasn't necessarily the most prolific or well known Blues artist; but he was popular in his own rite. Bob was an Atlanta native, who played twelve-string guitar while working at a Barbecue shop, where he picked up his interesting nickname. Bob was first recorded by Columbia Records when he was heard by a talent scout in Atlanta in 1927. He recorded two albums which quickly became best sellers, prompting many more sessions with Bob. Unfortunately, in 1931, just four years after his first recording; Bob contracted pneumonia and died at 29, leaving nearly seventy recordings to his name. Bob had often played with his brother, Charlie, who garnered very little success, becoming a drunk after his brothers' death. He died in prison in the 1960's.
